Organisation of an ecosystem Flashcards
(14 cards)
describe the 1st step of the water cycle
Energy from sun makes water evaporate from land and sea becomes water vapour
describe the 2nd step of the water cycle
Water also evaporates from plants this is called tranpiration
describe the 3rd step of the water cycle
The warm water vapour is carried upwards
the water vapour cools it condenses to form clouds
describe the 4th step of the water cycle
Water falls from clouds as rain, snow or hail. It provides water for plants and animals
describe the 5th step of the water cycle
Water doesn’t get absorbed by soil it will run off into stream and rivers.
describe the 6th step of the water cycle
The water drains back into the sea then starts all over again
What do plants need water for ?
Plants take up water through there roots.
They need water for photosynthesis
What do animals need water for ?
They nee water for chemical reactions in there bodies
They return water to soil and atmosphere in their waste
Describe the 1st step of the carbon cycle
Plants take in CO2 from air during photosynthesis. They use this to make glucose which is used to make carbon compound
e.g. carbohydrates
Describe the 2nd step of the carbon cycle
Eating passes the carbon compounds in plants along to animals in food chain
Describe the 3rd step of the carbon cycle
Both plant and animal respiration releases CO2 back into air
Describe the 4th step of the carbon cycle
Plants and animals eventually die or are killed and tuned into useful products
Describe the 5th step of the carbon cycle
Burning plant and animal products and fossil fuels releases CO2 back into the air.
Describe the 6th step of the carbon cycle
Microorganisms break down animal waste and dead organisms. As they break down the material they release CO2 back into air through respiration.
