Organische Chemie 02 Flashcards
(15 cards)
Name the oxidation levels from low to high based on bonds to heteroatoms
Zero one two three four
Between covalent bonds and Ionic bonds, which is more electronegative?
Ionic bonds because those molecules have the highest difference in electronegativity.
How does one define oxidation state/number?
The oxidation number is defined per atom. Every atom bonded to the asked atom that is lower in electronegativity counts as -1. Every bonded atom higher in electronegativity counts as +1. Identical atoms count as 0. Add up these numbers, and voila. For example, H3C-CH3. The first C has an oxidation number of 3*(-1)+(0) = -3.
Which orbital has the lowest energy?
1s
How many 2p orbitals are there?
3
Name all the orbitals from high to low energy

Between the bonding and antibonding MO, which has the highest energy?
The antibonding MO.
Where in the schematic is the antibonding MO compared to the bonding MO?
Higher/Above.
Which energylevel fills first with electrons?
The lowest
What do you call a bond of two end-on 2p orbitals?
Sigma (σ) bonds.
What do you call a bond of two side-on 2p orbitals?
pi bonds.
How many pi bonds are there?

What kind of bond do 1s and 2s form?
Sigma.
Where do the lone pairs go?
In the 2p orbitals
