- Provide medial/lateral stability
- Must have strong knee extensors

What is the main purpose of an off-set knee joint?
A
- Hold knee in extension
- Done by aligning knee joint behind the natural knee center
- Cannot be used with flexion contracture >10 degrees
- User must be able to extend hips to bring thighs backward and body weight forward

Main purpose of single axis locking knee
A
- Provide stability in frontal and sagittal planes
- Used for quad weakness
- Keeps knee extended during stance and swing
- Manual lock by user

How does the stance control knee joint work?
A
- During weight bearing, knee locking mechanism engages
- When unweighted, knee is allowed to flex during swing
- Can be adjusted to give different levels of resistance to flexion
- Must have 3/5 knee ext.
