Osmosis Practical Flashcards
Step 1
Using a cork borer cut 6 potato cylinders of the same diameter and trim them each to 3cm in length.
Step 2
Fill a test tube with 10cm^3 of pure water 5 more test tubes with the same volume but different concentrations of sugar solutions - 0.2 moles, 0.4 moles, 0.6 moles, 0.8 moles and 1 mole.
Step 3
Measure and record the mass and length of each of the potato cylinders.
Step 4
Leave one cylinder in each beaker and leave them, set a timer for 3 hours
Step 5
After 3 hours take the cylinders out and take care to gently pat them dry with a paper towel.
Step 6
Measure and record the new masses and lengths of the cylinders
