What is osteoporosis?
A disease where bone density diminishes, bones become fragile and brittle, often due to a lack of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D
What are bones made of?
Living tissue composed of :

What happens to bone regeneration as we age?
The process of breaking down and rebuilding bone slows, making bones brittle and prone to breaking
When do long bones typically stop growing?
Between ages 16 and 18.
When is peak bone mass typically achieved
Between ages 25 and 30
What are the main factors influencing bone mass development?
Genetics
nutrition
physical activity
Which nutrients are key for bone strength?
Calcium
phosphorus
vitamin D.
What are common sources of calcium?
Dairy, leafy greens, and tinned fish.
What are sources of vitamin D?
Sunlight, egg yolks, oily fish, and fortified foods
Which group is more susceptible to osteoporosis?
Women, especially over age 50 (more than 1 in 3).
What percentage of men over 50 are affected by osteoporosis?
About 1 in 5.
When does bone density begin to decline?
After the age of 25.
