when baby = few weeks old ands stops at 4/5 months

what are the symptoms of colic?
- baby will cry often suddenly - crying = high pitched - crying begins at same time each day - often afternoon/evening - baby might draw legs up when cry + stomach looks swollen - baby might clench hands - face blushes - crying can last for mins/hours - crying calms down when baby = exhausted / when passed wind/stool

what advice can you give to parents (colic)?
- hold baby in upright position to help wind pass - if breastfeeding, avoid products in diet that upset baby (caffeine, alcohol, spice, chocolate, dairy) - if bottle-feeding, make sure hole in tea = correct size (if too large —> baby fed too quickly and gulps in air)

- dizziness - inc awareness of stomach - nausea and often vomiting - pallor - cold sweat - headache - drowsiness - nausea and/or vomiting

- children under 2 - pregnant/breastfeeding - concurrent disease states
