Summarise what happens in this scene
Desdemona pleads for Cassio and othello listens, but Iago plants doubt in Othello’s mind,
Desdemona loses the handkerchief and Emilia gives it to Iago,
Iago claims to have seen Cassio with the handkerchief
What does the handkerchief symbolise?
A traditional love token, symbolises othello and Desdemona’s passion and their loyalty to one another,
Was an heirloom, suggesting Desdemona’s acceptance to othello’s differing background
Becomes a symbol of othello’s jealousy, believed to have represented Desdemona’s body
Also reflects the fragility of their relationship
