Stop the train at the Stop Board.
Carry out the instruction shown on the board.

You can also proceed when given permission by the authorised person.

PLB identifies the boundary of a possession.

It can also be used as part of the protection for a line blockage.

What do banner repeaters do?

A

Provided before signals that are difficult to see.
e.g. curvature of the line, buildings and tunnels.

They give advanced information of the approaching signal.

Why are they provided?

A

A co-acting signal repeats the exact aspect or indication of the main signal.

To give both short and long distance sighting of the signal.

A

Used by platform staff.

Shows [OFF] when signal is at Proceed,
which allows staff to then give CD and RA

Shows [ ] when signal is at danger

A

or any other indication to show which route has been set.

What is a Whistle Board?
What must a driver do?

A

Sign: (W)

It may be provided on the approach to some level crossings.

The driver must sound the horn continuously on the approach to the level crossing ahead.

What is a Preliminary Route Indicator?

What happens:
If arrow is pointing straight up?
If there is no arrow?

A

It shows an arrow pointing in the same direction as the approaching junction indicator.

Up arrow: There is no junction indicator set and junction signal shows proceed.

No arrow: Junction signal is at Danger - Stop!

Automatic Warning Signal (AWS) Cancelling Indicators

Describe the signs.
What does it inform the driver?
Where is it placed?

A

[X] Blue back, White cross
-Used with permanant AWS magnet

[X] Yellow back, Black cross
-Used with portable AWS magnet

The sign tells the driver that the warning indication does not apply to him.

Normally placed 180metres after passing AWS magnet
