What are the boundaries of the axilla?

A

Base: skin, subcutaneous tissue and fascia extending from the arm to the chest.
Apex: between first rib, clavicle and superior border of subscapularis muscle.
Anterior wall: pectoralis major and pectoralis minor.
Posterior wall: scapula and subscapularis (superiorly) and teres major and latissimus dorsi (inferiorly).
Medial wall: chest wall (1st to 4th ribs) and serratus anterior.
Lateral wall: intertubercular groove of the humerus.

A

Boundaries: tendons of abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis anteriorly and extensor pollicis longus posteriorly.
Contents: scaphoid (floor) and radial artery.
Seen with full extension of the thumb.
