What are the ovaries?
A
Female reproductive organs
Homologous to testes in makes
Two in female pelvis - left and right

Where do they develop?
A
Hugh in posterior abdominal wall then descend before birth - brings vessels and nerves with them
They stop at wall of pelvic cavity

What is the mesovarium?
A
A thin layer of peritoneum that drapes over the uterus and ovarian tubes
Ovaries are suspended in this

What functions do ovaries have?
A
Site of ovum release
Production and release of female sex hormones - oestrogen and progesterone

What is menopause?
A
Women’s ova begin to run out and the menstrual cycle becomes erratic and fertility decreases
