The war against Austria and Prussia

  • The pillnitz declaration threatned combined military intervention in France in support of Louis.
  • War was declared and supported by Girondins who thought that war would end threat from emigres and deter foreign invasion
  • moderate feulliants didnt support this and the King replaced them with pro war Girondins
  • Soldiers were demoralised and there was lack of experience
  • Queen was passing military secrets
  • Louis veteod two laws- emigre property confiscation and illegal not to swear clerical oath.

The main reason for louis being overthrown was war?

A

It showed his poor judgement and lack of willingness to be a constitutional monarch.

Showed inexperience of the National Assembly

National Guard was arriving in Paris

Prussians army threatned to destroy paris if royals were harmed in the brunswick manifesto. Identified king with the enemy.

Louis and Marie took refuge with LA who ended up handing them over they were killed the next year.
