Why is it eroding? What is the rate of erosion? (4)
A
- One of the fastest eroding coastlines in Europe
- Loses an average of 2 metres of land a year
- Strong prevailing winds make longshore drift which moves eroded material.
- Soft rock

Why is it needed?
A
- Threatening homes, businesses, farmland, main roads.

What management schemes are being used?
A
- 1991: £2 million: rock armour and groynes at Mapleton
- Bridlington: popular tourist destination, 4.7 km long sea wall.

Effects and conflicts
A
- Key infrastructure has been protected, however large areas are still left unprotected
- Groynes at Mapleton have starved beaches South of Mapleton, increasing erosion there.
- Unprotected areas eroding faster has caused bays and headlands. Headlands are more exposed, leading to faster erosion.
