P3 Flashcards

Whole of paragraph 3:
Worries surrounding safeguarding are valid-but with proper regulations and strict laws, we can legalise assisted dying safely.
Implementing a panel including a psychologist, a legal expert, and a doctor could ensure eligibility and check that decisions are free from pressure or coercion. With these measures, the process would be safe, fair, and legal. We could also implement harsh penalties for manipulation which could help to protect vulnerable people. If we maintain strict laws surrounding assisted dying eligibility and regulate the process carefully, there is no reason it should put people at risk.
And even if a small minority of cases turn out unethical, why should that mean that the choice should be taken away from everyone who would use their choice for a good reason? Finally, some argue that life’s intrinsic value means ending a life can never be justified. While I absolutely recognise the value of life, I also believe that if someone finds no joy in living and there is no hope of recovery, then quality of life should matter more than the sanctity of it.
