Define pyloric stenosis

A

Hypertrophy of the smooth muscle of the antrum and pylorus of the stomach

  • commoner in males and between and usually between 1st week of life up to 3 months

What is the presentation, investigation and management of pyloric stenosis?

A

Enlarged pylorus “olive” palpated in the RUQ or abdomen

USS

Correct fluid and electrolyte imbalance before performing Ramstedt’s or laparoscopic pyloromyotomy

A

Idiopathic disease of new born infants

What is the presentation of duodenal atresia?

A

Onset of vomiting within hours of birth

Abdomen scaphoid and there is double bubble sign on USS
- first bubble stomach and second postpyloric and prestenotic dilated duodenal loop
