Shape memory alloys
When it is cool they can change shape however when it heats up to a certain temperature it will return to its original shape.
Nitinol glasses
Shape memory alloy.
If the lenses are bent then they can be placed in hot water and change back to their original shape.
Photochromatic pigments.
Can change a colour based on the light level. For example regular glasses can be turned into sunglasses in the sun and then they return to glasses out of the sun.
Photochromatic inks
Used on t shirts to reveal a design in the sun.
Thermochromic plastics.
Change colour based on heat. They go back to their original colour when cool again.
Used on baby spoons so the parents can see if the food is too hot.
Used on T shirts and novelty mugs.
Glass reinforced plastic properties
Stronger and tougher than just plastic. Heat resistant and easy to mould into shapes.
Glass reinforced plastic uses.
Used on boats, kayaks, surfboards and pcbs.
Carbonfibre reinforced plastic properties.
Stronger, lighter and tougher than GRP but more expensive.
Carbonfibre reinforced plastic uses.
Sportsgear, bulletproof vests, protective helmets and racing cars.
Kevlar
A synthetic fibre that can be woven into a really strong fabric that is resistant to abrasion. Used on motorcyclists clothes.
Nomex
Fire resistant, used in figherfighter suits and racing cars.
Conductive fabrics
Used in touchscreen gloves.
