Q

What is Nociception?

A

is the neutral process of encoding and processing noxious stimuli- how the body senses the presence of a dangerous stimulus in its periphery (outer nerve endings not in the brain, and anything that has contact to the outside world.
- i.e. sensing the presence of a potentially dangerous stimulus in the periphery
- It is initiated by nociceptors or danger receptors
- When the mechanical force, is applied to the nociceptor, reaches a certain threshold, it fires and says that that stimulus is too much for me to handle, I need to tell central nervous system about it.
