Chronological Structure
The information in the infographic is presented in a time progression context
Effect: Allows the copywriter to highlight pieces of information by associating them with periods. Moreover, it gives an overview about the history of the idea
Hierarchical Structure
Visualizes content that goes from smallest to highest or most important to least important or vice versa.
Effect: Allows the copywriter to highlight the different levels of an idea and how they are interconnected with each other.
Cause-Effect Structure
The cause of a situation is first presented and then the effect of the situation is depicted
Effect: Allows the reader to understand the severity of the situation by visualising the effects that it has had.
Comparative Structure
Two comparative ideas are cleverly organised beside each other
Effect: Allows the reader to understand the similarities and differences between the two ideas and make an informed decision.
Icons/ Iconography
Simple pictograms or symbols
Effects: Allows the writer to give structure to the infographic and highlight key pieces of information through pictorial representation. It can also effectively communicate important pieces of information without relying on words.
Visual Methaphor
A representation of a noun through a visual image.
Effect: Helps the readers understand complex ideas and emotions more effectively and changes the audience’s perception about a product or an idea.
Statistics
Data driver points or facts
Effect: Add credibility and authority to the information presented in the infographic
Key Takeaways
Brief summary or conclusion that highlights the main points of the infographic
Effect: It allows the reader to reflect upon the information and provides a clear call to action
