who are the key psychologists in the humanistic approach?
rogers, maslow
What are the key assumptions of the humanistic approach?
behaviour is affected by free will and self-determining external/internal factors
only the use of subjective experience should be acknowledged producing a person-centered approach
What are the levels in the Maslow hierarchy of needs with examples
Physiological needs - food, water, shelter, warmth, and sleep.
Safety needs - security, stability, and protection from danger or harm
Love and belonging needs - affection, belongingness, and social interaction.
Self esteem - self-esteem, recognition, and respect from others.
Self-actualization - personal growth, fulfillment, and realizing one’s potential.
What is congruence?
when an individual strives for personal growth to the point there is an alignment between their ideal and actual self.
if this is not in function a state of incongruence will occur and self actualisation cannot be met
how does parental style affect congruence?
lack of unconditional love and positive regard can lead to low self esteem + thoughts of worthlessness. e.g. setting boundaries on thier love with a child can cause conditions forto be worthy
Describe client-centred therapy?
rogers
this is a form of counselly psychology where the aim is to increase self worth and decrease incongruence
how? by providing genuiness, empathy and unconditional positive regard
What are the strengths of the humanistic approach ?

What are the weaknesses of the humanistic approach?
-unscientific as it cannot be falsified
-Culture Bias
-Highly subjective
