Paper 2-SP8,SP9 Flashcards
(24 cards)
What is power measured in?
Watts.
What is 1watt?
1 Joule per second.
What is the equation for power?
Work done/time
What is it called if the objects are touching?
Contact forces.
When you stand on the floor where is the normal contact force?
Upwards from floor to you.
What type is gravity?
Non contact force as it does not need to touch.
What are action reaction forces?
Pairs of forces acting on different objects in opposite direction
What is the field around an object where it can affect other objects?
The force field.
What are other things that affect objects even when they are not directly in contact?
Magnetism, gravity, static electricity.
What does a magnet attract?
Objects made of magnetic materials (iron, nickel and cobalt).
What is the place around a magnet where it can effect another object?
Magnetic field.
What does an object charged with static electricity have?
An electric field (electrostatic field).
Can you do vector diagrams or scale diagrams?
If not watch a video.
What are some of the vector diagrams called?
Scale diagram and free body force diagram.
What is a turning force called?
A moment.
What is a key word to do with moments?
A pivot.
Where is the distance between the force and pivot measured?
Normal(at right angles to the direction of force).
What is the unit for a moment?
Newton metres (N m).
What is the equation for a moment?
Force x distance normal (perpendicular) to the direction of the force.
What happens when a system involving rotational forces is in equilibrium?
The sum of clockwise moments=the sum of anti clockwise moments.
What is a lever?
A bar that pivots about a point and is used to transfer a force.
What can the rotational effect of a force also be transmitted by?
Gears.
What are the things on a gear called.
Teeth and are normally interlocking with other teeth so they are interlocking teeth.
What will happen is gear A has 8 times the gears as Gear B?
Each turn of A will turn B 8 times.
