Gary Ives In 2014, a group of 17-year-old pupils from a West Yorkshire secondary school were questioned if they believed they talked differently based on their age. 63 of 63 students said yes. He then asked them how they spoke today, and I discovered that the common words in their vocabulary had been tabooby a demonic register, with forbidden dialect being the most prominent characteristic. he then said “teenagers also use language to create and support a sense of social identity that will inevitably change as new experiences, hobbies and friendship groups circulate.”
