Q

What are the three themes presented in Park?

A

-Belonging - insider or outsider? It examines the brittle nature of how the park inhabitants and visitors experience themselves as ‘in’ or ‘out’. Within this theme homelessness and immigration are also explored
-Ownership - the sense of ownership of this public space felt by locals and new residents alike. The piece explores accommodating co-existence and dangerous tensions created by the mixed occupants of the land
-Power - of internal or external forces, of individuals and groups within different scenarios

Q

What was the creative process of park?

A

-The dancers went to the park for 3 hours and interacted with their surroundings to build their character
-In rehearsals Vardimon questioned them to develop their characters and also used props as an extension of their character, for example the bully used a ball to show how he controls the other dancers and how its quite intimidating but also portrays him as a souless individual
-The dancers were very much apart of the creative process
-In their final rehearsals, Vardimon invited in an acting coach Geoffrey Colman, head of Acting at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, to specifically work on their delivery of the text
