1
Q

Levodopa

A

Levodopa crosses the blood-brain barrier, where it is then converted into dopamine by the enzyme aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AAAD or DOPA decarboxylase). Dopamine itself cannot cross the blood-brain barrier, which is why its precursor, levodopa, is used.
