When is a Take off alternate required
The authorised weather forecast at departure indicates that in the applicable time periods, the weather conditions are forecast to be below the landing minima for the applicable approach to be used for a return to land. Or if the aerodrome is un-useable for other reasons
Alternate required for cloud ceiling
1000’ above the company landing minima likely to be used for the landing
or
500’ above the minimum altitude for a circling manoeuvre.
Alternate required for Visibility
5K
or
2K greater than the operators landing minima.
Alternate NOT required for Lighting
Sufficient fuel for first light plus 10 mins
or
Responsible person (qualified) to be able to turn on lights
and
STBY power or portable lights available
from 30mins prior to arrival until completion of taxi.
TAF 3 exception to airborne flights
If aircraft has departed and is within 60mins flight time of destination,
The forecast is a TAF 3 (and within 3 hour period)
Weather from 30mins prior to 60mins after arrival
no additional ATC holding fuel required from ETA to 60mins after arrival
Within Australia

- RNP RW15 to circle 1600’ & 6K Vis
