Q

Meaning of the 8 lines of praise:

OM I prostrate to VV, the Blessed Mother HUM HUM PHAT

A

OM symbolizes the b, s, and m of VY. VV, or VY, is the embodiment of of the perfection of wisdom of all Bs. The name VY emphasizes her nature as the union of B and E, and the name VV emphasizes her function of destroying ignorance.

She is the ‘Blessed Mother’ bc she has destroyed the 4 maras and possesses all the good qualities of a B.

HUM - ‘Please grant me the mundane attainments such as increased wealth, lifespan, and merit.’
HUM - ‘Please grant me the supramundane attainments such as the realization of SGB, the union that needs learning, and the Union of NML’
PHAT - requests the destruction of the outer, inner and secret obstacles that prevent us from gaining these attainments.

Ordinary appearances and conceptions:

A

[John’s ordinary environment, enjoyments, body and mind, and seeing himself as John] are ordinary appearances. The mind that assents to these ordinary appearances by holding them to be true is ordinary conception. Ordinary conceptions are obstructions to liberation, and ordinary appearances are obstructions to omniscience.

Q

Training in Divine Pride: 3 reasons to help subdue ordinary conceptions and improve divine pride:

A

1) I am no longer an ordinary being bc my ordinary b, m, and environment have been purified through the practice of the three bodies into the path. During this practice I actually died and took rebirth and VY in her PL.
2) Later, when i absorbed the wisdom beings, i dissolved all Bs in the form of VY into myself. Therefore I am one with VY and my nature is the same as that of all Bs.
3) The ordinary deluded pride that i have had until now results only in suffering and continued rebirth in samsara but divine prude will lead me to liberation and VY’s PL. Therefore I will never give up this pure pride of being VY.

Q

Meaning of the 3 OM mantra:

A

Signify VY is the embodiment of the three bodies of all Buddhas.
First OM - symbolizes TB of all Bs
2nd OM - EB
3rd OM - EmB

SARWA BUDDHA DAKINIYE literally means ‘All the Bs’s Dakinis’. In this context, ‘Dakini’ is the inner Dakini, CLM of a B > VY is the nature of the CLM of all Bs.

VAJRA WARNANIYE means ‘Vajra Speech Dakini’ > VY is the nature of the vajra speech of all Bs.

VAJRA BEROTZANIYE means ‘Vajra Form Dakini’ > VY is the nature of the vajra body of all Bs. Here, ‘vajra’ means GB inseparable from E.

HUM HUM HUM requests: ‘Please grant me the blessings of your b, s, and m so that i may attain the vajra body, speech, and mind of a B’.

PHAT PHAT PHAT requests: ‘Please pacify my outer, inner, and secret obstacles’.

SOHA requests: ‘Please help me build the foundation of all attainments’.

The letters of the mantra are the same nature as the 32 retinue Dakinis. 32 letters are like the retinue of the principle letter, the BAM. BAM consists of five letters - YA, RA, LA, WA, and, short-AH - and so altogether there are 37 letters. These are of one nature with the 37 Dakinis. The short AH is VY, and the letters YA, RA, LA, and WA are Lama, Khandarohi, Rupini, and Dakini respectively.

Special way of using mala to gather Dakinis in body:

A
  • suspend mala over heart or navel
  • mala over ring finger
  • imagine from the E of each bead arises a Deity in the aspect of VY who dissolves into our heart or navel
  • can change to middle or index finger if more comfortable, but a few times with ring finger is auspicious bc it symbolizes controlling delusions

Q

First CS meditation within mental recitation:

A

At our heart we visualize a phenomena source about the size of a tip of a little finger. Inside this is a moon cushion, mantra rosary, and letter BAM. The ph source descends through the central channel to the centre of our navel channel wheel, where we concentrate on it a few moments.

We then gently inhale and imagine that all the winds of upper art of our body gather ad flow down through the CC, reaching the point just above the ph source at our navel.

We then slightly tighten the muscles of the lower art of our body and draw up all the lower winds. These rise up through the CC and reach the pint just below the ph source at our navel.

We feel our mind is inside the ph source at navel channel wheel. Focus on four side corners of the ph source where tiny joy swirls counter-clockwise. We hold the vase breath and concentrate SP on the four joy swirls for as long as possible. Just before we being to feel discomfort we exhale slowly and gently through the nostrils.

Q

Three basic objects of knowledge:

1st

A

objects of knowledge related to the body

  • the mind
  • to the elements

re body:

6 elements of a human body: bone, marrow, white drops (from father), and flesh, skin, and blood (from mother).

Our true body is a very subtle body composed of the inner wind that is inseparable from our very subtle mind.

In dreams and the intermediate state, a subtle body naturally becomes manifest, but until we attain the illusory body the very subtle body is never manifest.

Once we attained the pure illusory body our subtle body is always manifest. It becomes our actual body with which we naturally identify…subtle body is our true body and our gross body is like our house. Defining characteristic of death is the final separation of body and mind. Since the very subtle body never separates from the very subtle mind, once this body is always manifest we are free from death.

Q

Object of knowledge related to the mind:

A

the very subtle mind is also called the ‘continuously residing mind’ because it has been with us since beginningless time and will remain with us until we attain Buddhahood. Other minds, such as the deluded minds…are called ‘temporary minds’ because they will cease when we attain liberation.

Two ways to realize the continuously residing mind: intellectually through receiving an introductory explanation, or experientially by meditating on completion stage practices such as the yogas of the channels, drops, and winds. [Gampopa and Milarepa].

17
Q

Objects of knowledge related to the elements:

A

channels, drops, winds.

red and white drops the essence of blood and sperm respectively. The original red drop, from which the red drops and inner heat originate, is located principally at the centre of the navel channel wheel. The original white drop, from which the white drops and bodily strength originate…centre of the crown channel wheel.

The quintessential drop is the indestructible drop located at our heart inside the central channel.

18
Q

Visualizing the central channel:

A

First, Guru V dissolves into our heart and becomes one with us. Meditate on emptiness of our body…and generate as VY.

CC is thick as an arrow. Lower tip at sex organ it ascends straight to the crown, travelling midway between our right and left sides but slightly closer to our back than to our chest. At the crown it curves forward and terminates between the eyebrows.

4 qualities: 1) very straight, like the trunk of a plantain tree; 2) inside oily red, like pure blood; 3) very clear and transparent, like a candle flame; 4) very soft and flexible, like a lotus petal.

The lower tips of the side channels join the cc at the navel, forming a vacuole inside the cc. We should contemplate the cc’s nature, colour, shape, locations, and qualities until we gain a rough mental image of it, and then mediate on this image. By repeatedly contemplating and meditating in this way, we will improve the clarity of our image of the cc.

19
Q

Visualizing the tummo letter:

A

We visualize this [red] drop as a red letter RAM, the seed-letter of the fire element, which is located inside the vacuole within the cc at the centre of our navel channel wheel.

This letter RAM, which is about the size of a sunflower seed, is dark red, radiates light, and is capped with a crescent moon, drop and nada. We can visualize the letter RAM either as the English letter R capped with a crescent moon, drop and nada, or as the Tibetan letter. We first form a rough mental image of the RAM and we then imagine that our mind dissolves into it. We then concentrate on this single-pointedly for as long as possible.

20
Q

what is a body mandala?

A

defined as the transformation of any part of the body of a self-generated Deity into a Deity.

21
Q

Describe the body mandala of VY:

A

37 Deities generated from 37 parts of her body:
24 channels of the 24 inner places
8 channels of the 8 doors
4 channels of the heart channel wheel
1 at the very subtle indestructible drop at the heart

22
Q

24 inner places of the body are:

A

1) the hairline
2) the crown
3) the right ear
4) the back of the neck
5) the left ear
6) the brow (point between the eyebrows)
7) the two eyes
8) the two shoulders
9) the two armpits
10) the two breasts
11) the navel
12) the tip of the nose
13) the mouth
14) the throat
15) the heart (midway between two breasts)
16) the two testicles for men, the two sides of the vagina for women
17) the tip of the sex organ
18) the anus
19) the two thighs
20) the two calves
21) the eight fingers and eight toes
22) the tops of the feet
23) the two thumbs and two big toes
24) the two knees

23
Q

the 8 channels of the 8 doors of the sense powers:

A

These 8 doors are tiny openings or vacuoles at the outer tip of each of the 8 channels. They are located at:

1) the root of the tongue
2) the navel
3) the sex organ
4) the anus
5) point between the eyebrows
6) the two ears
7) the two eyes
8) the nostrils

24
Q

Where do we visualize the body mandala?

A

[They[ are generated inside the central channel of the heart channel wheel…6 knots…At the centre of these knows is a tiny vacuole. This is where we visualize the body mandala of VY.
