Part 9: Lungs Flashcards
(13 cards)
What are the contents of the left lung root?
L pulmonary artery
L pulmonary veins
L main bronchus
Bronchial vessels, autonomic nerves, lymph
What are contents of the right lung root?
R pulmonary artery
R pulmonary veins
R main bronchus
Bronchial vessels, autonomic nerves and lymph
Note: bronchus to upper lobe bifurcates before lung root as does artery that supplies it
What is the course of L pulmonary artery?
Arises from RV. Attached to under surface of aortic arch by LA. Spirals over L bronchus to enter hilum
What is the course of R pulmonary artery?
Passes below carina, anterior to oesophagus. Gives off branch to upper lobe prior to entering hilum.
What are the lobes of the lung?
R: Superior, middle and inferior
L: Superior, inferior and lingular (part of superior)
Describe the fissures of the lung?
What is there purpose?
Oblique - extents surface of hilum dividing into superior and inferior lobes
Horizontal (R lung) - passes from anterior oblique fissure to seperate wedge piece (middle lobe).
Provides slippery surface to allow for easy movement and expansion
What are the surface markings of hila?
lie behind 3-4th CC at sternal margins (T5-7)
Carina lies more to which side?
Left, therefor FB more likely to fall into RMB, especially given steepness of RMB
How many segmental lobes does each main bronchus have?
approximately 10
Name the segmental lobes for R lung?
Upper:
- Apical
- Posterior
- Anterior
Middle:
- Lateral
- Medial
Lower:
- Apical
- Medial basal
- Anterior basal
- Lateral basal
- Posterior basal
Name the segmental lobes for L lung?
Upper:
1 +2. Apicoposterior
3. Anterior
Middle:
- Superior lingular
- Inferior lingular
Lower:
- Apical
- Medial basal
- Anterior basal
- Lateral basal
- Posterior basal
What is the blood supply of the bronchial tree?
Arterial blood supply from brachial arteries (2 on L, 1 on R). Supplies bronchial tree down to respiratory bronchioles at which point pulmonary artery supplies alveoli with deoxygenated blood giving them all but O2 which they already have in abundance
Describe the lymph drainage of lungs?
Runs towards hilum, along bronchi and pulmonary arteries. Hilar nodes lie just within and just without the lung.
