Goings was influenced by the Pop Art movement and explored American Popular Culture in his paintings, similar to artists such as Andy Warhol.
Goings often used objects in his still life paintings that represented mass consumerism, such as Heinz Ketchup, which is used in his painting Pie and Iced Tea.Going’s interest in mass consumerism can also be seen in the city scape painting “McDonalds
Pickup”, in which the subject matter is of the fast food chain McDonalds. Thus, Goings was clearly also interested in places of mass consumption and not just the objects being consumed.

Influenced by the Art Deco movemt.
This style was popular at the time that the “Nord Express” poster was designed, characterised by the elements such as geometric shapes,bold curves and strong vertical lines.
This influence can be seen in the way the designer used geometric shapes to create the image of the train.
