Part Two-Real Utopia Flashcards
(11 cards)
Personal world view-What is your world view?
- it is wrong to be racism and everyone should be held at equal value for their colour, and culture
- governments should not try to make people equal in society based on their socio-economic status, by taxing more money from those who make more money
- passion towards helping keep our earth clean and reduce pollution
- everything on earth is important whether it is nature, or humans because we are all connected
- our world can be both spiritual and material meaning there is meaning behind a view that it was created by a god, but there is also meaning behind a view that says law and ways are determined by science
- it is important for everyone to have the freedom to choose their own values
Personal world view-How do you know what you know?
- passed on traditions and beliefs from my parents and grandparents, such as my view against racism
- events and issues I study in school, such as environmental views
- experiences I have gone through including things I see around me in my everyday life, such as ideas from the media
Personal world view-How has your worldview developed over the course of this class?(What has caused it to solidify or change?)
- solidify
- learned more about what I believe in, gives me a stronger opinion in those areas
- ex. I have adopted my ideas about the environment and nature from the indigenous world views we have looked over in class. After expanding my knowledge, I learned that I strongly agree with part of the indigenous views as I listed in my personal worldview
Historical and current day society-What are past and present social issues?
- past: poverty and racism
- ex. Imperialism: racism when the British took over South Africa and forced black people into slavery and poor treatment
- present: racism and drug abuse
- ex. Our society has developed into a place where drugs and alcohol are very common and we often hear stories of that topic resulting in death
Historical and current day society-What are social, political, and economic issues from the time periods we have studied?
- French revolution
- economic: country was in debt(Marie Antoinette’s spending/ King Louis XVI taxed more money from poor than rich)
- social: major poverty(King Louis XVI did not work to help lower class so when he ran out of money he took from the poor)
- political: poor leadership from the monarchy(King Louis XVI continued to hog good when country was starving/ Marie Antoinette over spent countries money)
Historical and current day society-Compare and contrast those with social, political, and economic issues in our society today.
- poverty is still an issue though our government works towards helping it, rather than making it worse
- main issue is not poor leader ship because we decide who leads us
- still suffer from racism
Your ideal society-What does your ideal society look like?
- welcome place for everyone
- somewhere comfortable to be
- living conditions under less stress
- kind citizens(no murders or other intentional hurtful things done by people)
- ability to do interests without paying
Your ideal society-What are the social, political, and economic aspects of your society?
- social: respect all religions, communal approaches to education, no racism, controlled media so people don’t feel they need to look a certain way
- political: use power to protect and keep peace and not to seek war, eliminate redistribution of income and wealth
- economic: sustainable food, sustainable energy, controlled use of materials that negatively impact the environment
Your ideal society-What other elements of a society are important that you would include?
- communal approaches to recreation(everyone gets a chance to join)
- high level athletes and teams are strongly supported by community
- balance between society, shared interest, and individuality, spirituality
Create a plan-What are current obstacles that are in the way of your ideal society?
- people don’t accept others for who they are or what they believe in
- there are acts of racism everyday
- society is controlled by the idea that people need to look a certain way
- upper class is taxed more which isn’t fair because they work hard to earn that money and more is taken from them than everyone else
- too much pollution, deforestation, building over top of home lands for species, harming the environment to benefit humans
Create a plan-Create a plan for how you can overcome those obstacles, in order to achieve what you think is an ideal society.
- change the media from telling people to look a certain way, to focusing on accepting everyone
- giving people more freedom to explore other religions, or keeping the religions to individuals. (Build more religious churches or buildings)
- punish acts of racism whether it is by law, or in schools, or work places
- government taxes equal amount no matter what your socio-economic status
- government controls and looks through any plans to raise the effect of pollution, and wrecking land even if it is private
