particles Flashcards
(27 cards)
What do solids look like?
All next to each other in an ‘order’
What do liquids look like?
Arranged in a random way and some touching
What does gas look like?
Widely spaced
What’s water made up of?
Hydrogen and oxygen
Two things about water?
Water has many special properties
What’s made out of particles?
Everything
What can a particle model show?
The state change of solids, liquids, and gases
What is melting?
When a substance is heated, it absorbs energy and turns into a liquid.
What is boiling?
When a liquid is heated, it absorbs more energy and boils, turning it into gas.
What is evaporating?
When a liquid turns into gas slowly at temperatures below its boiling point.
What is condensing?
If gas is cooled, it transfers energy to the surroundings and turns into a liquid.
What is freezing?
When a liquid is cooled, it transfers energy to its surroundings and turns into a solid.
What does ‘endo’ mean?
‘Endo’ means going in.
What does ‘exo’ mean?
‘Exo’ means going out.
What is the process of solid turning into liquid?
Melting
What is the process of liquid turning into solid?
Freezing
What is the process of liquid turning into gas?
Evaporating/Boiling
What is the process of gas turning into liquid?
Condensation
What is the process of solid turning into gas?
Sublimation
What is the formula for pressure?
Pressure = Force ÷ Area
What is pressure measured in?
Pascals (Pa)
What is pressure measured in?
Pascals (Pa)
What is force measured in?
Newtons (N)
What is area measured in?
Square meters (m²)
