Particles: Key words/terms Flashcards
(16 cards)
What does boiling mean?
the change of state from a liquid to gas
What does concentration mean?
A measure of the amount of something in the same place
What does condensation mean?
The change of state from a gas to a liquid that take place at the boiling point or any temperature below
What does density mean?
The matter in a particular volume
what is deposition?
The direct change of state from a gas to a solid
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles in a liquid or gas from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
what is evaporation
The change of state from a liquid to gas that takes place slowly at temperatures below the boiling point
What are forces of attraction?
They exist between particles and can be strong or weak
what is freezing?
The change of state from a liquid to a soild taht takes place at the melting point or below
What is gas pressure?
Caused by the collisions of particles with the walls of the container
What is matter?
Anything that has mass
What is melting?
The change of state from a solid to a liquid that takes place at the melting point
What is a particle model?
a way to think about how substances behave in terms of very tiny moving objects
What is a particle?
A very tiny object that is too small to be seen with a microscope
What is physical change?
A usually reversible change in the physical. properties of. asubstance, such as size, shape or state of matter
What is sublimation?
the direct change of state from a solid to a gas
