Q

Whats a passwordless indentification?

A

Unlike password-based methods, passwordless authentication systems verify a user’s identity through various non-password factors. These factors fall under two categories: possession factors (something the user has, like a security token) and inherence factors (something unique to the user, like a fingerprint).

Q

What are passkeys?

A

A passkey simplifies multifactor authentication by substituting the need for a password and an OTP (such as a 6-digit code sent via SMS). This provides a solid defense against phishing while removing the inconvenience associated with SMS or app-based one-time passwords. Passkeys enable a seamless passwordless experience across all user devices, browsers, and operating systems with just one setup.

The benefits of passkeys are notable for both security and cost-effectiveness. Since developers store only a public key on the server rather than a full password, there’s much less incentive for hackers to target these servers, simplifying the cleanup process if a breach does occur. Passkeys offer robust protection against phishing attacks by ensuring they only work on pre-registered websites and apps, preventing users from being fooled into authenticating on fraudulent sites.

Q

What are the reasons for privacy settings?

A

First is unauthorized access. Inadvertently sharing data with unauthorized individuals or parties can lead to identity theft, phishing attacks, and targeted advertising.

The second is data misuse. Companies or applications may misuse users data for purposes beyond their intended functionality.

The third is loss of control. Uncontrolled data sharing can make it difficult for a user to manage their online footprint and reputation.
