Past Paper - 28/05 Flashcards
(7 cards)
How does geology influence landscape
- Metamorphic and igneous rocks are generally more resistant to
erosion and reflect past volcanic activity - So form higher ground with mountainous areas in much of Scotland and
North Wales as a result - Higher ground more likely to be moorland with imposing landscapes and much surface rock/scree
- Lowland clearly sedimentary rocks
- There are exceptions
Reasons for rise in tertiary employment in the UK
- Growing population
- Demand for more teachers & doctors
Higher incomes - more demand for retail/leisure.
Reasons for variations of building height
Because of costs of land (1) making it more profitable to build
upwards to intensify land use (1)
Positives and negatives of regeneration in Birmingham
Positive : Attracts investment, increased income generated - more people are attracted to come and spend.
Negative: Displaces people due to lack of affordable housing - becomes more expensive as it becomes a more desirable area
How has migration changed the population in Birmingham
- More ethnically diverse
- YOUNGER age structure - migrants tend to be younger/ of work-seeking age.
- Invigorates local economy
- Doctors coming from abroad/ more students
How would you use an OS map to determine situation points to investigate contrast
OS maps can show beach management
Plan your route and day ahead
Determine lengths of the beaches to establish the three different points of measurement that are equal - systematic sample to be carried out.
Establish if accessible and safe/ health and safety.
How would you improve data collection methods in your fieldwork THREE
- Better equipment (1) detail of the same (1)
- More data collected (1) to improve sample size (1)
- Visits at different times (1) to allow for variance on
populations/environments so improve reliability (1)
