Q

Explain what shaping, counteconditioning, flooding, operant conditioning, desensitizaton mean!

A

Shaping: rewarding all behaviour that is close to the desired behaviour, to ultimately teach the final desired behaviour. Ex. Puppy to sit slight squat, and it will receive a reward.
Counterconditioning: pairing an undesired stimulus witha positive reward, until there is a positive association. Ex. Fearful environment, storms, noises, and give rewards until they associate it with somethign positive instead of a fear.
Flooding: forced to face fear until the fear response has disappeared (extreme „desensitisation”. Rarely works in canines. Ex. Put dog in a noisy environment until it calms don/ shows no fear response.
Desensitisation: exposing the animal to the undesired stimulus, but at such a low level that the fear response is not present. Ex. Playing thunderstorm recordings at a low volume, so the animal doesn’t react, and gradually increasing the stimulus.
