What is paternalism ?
Believes some members of society should lead others , conservatives belive in human imperfection , which justifies paternalism, Humans may not always make best choices for themselves , therefore it is acceptable to act on behalf of other people .
What is traditional paternalism ?
Idea state knows best and therefore everyone has to do as state says
What does one nation conservatism argue?
strong paternalist ideas. conservative ideology argued there should be social classes. Paternalism of one nation has roots in idea of noblesse oblige - obligation of aristocracy and upper classes to look after wc and less fortunate
Why did new right reject paternalism?
Eg under thatcher , there was a focus on individualism . The individual had a responsibility to look after themselves and family. Thatcher rejected paternalist ideas of establishment looking after wc by cutting social security such as state pensions
