Justice
Bringing about what is fair or right according to law or making up for a wrong that has been committed.
Forgiveness
Showing grace and mercy and pardoning someone for what they’ve done wrong.
Reconciliation
A sacrament of the Catholic Church; also when individuals or groups restore friendly relations after conflict or disagreement.
Sanctity of Life
Life is sacred (holy) because it is God-given.
“God made man in his image”
Nuclear Warfare
A conflict in which the participants use nuclear weapons or missiles.
Deterrence
The storage of nuclear weapons to prevent another state from using theirs against you and starting a war.
Nuclear Proliferation
The increase in the number of states that have the potential to use nuclear weapons.
Nuclear Holocust
An event where two or more states used nuclear weapons against each other, causing unimaginable destruction of human life. This would likely cause the destruction of much of the Earth’s population.
The Arms Race
After WWII, many countries became nuclear powers. America and the Soviet Union in the 1960s, 70s and 80s built many weapons, each trying to keep pace with each other.
Terrorism
The unlawful use of extreme violence, usually against innocent civilians, to achieve a religious or political goal.
Protest
An expression of disapproval, often in a public group.
Violence
Using actions that harm or threaten others.
Pacifism
The belief of people who refuse to take part in war or any other form of violence.
Pacifists
Conscientious objectors to war and any other form of violence.
Quakers
Members of the Society of Friends, a Christian denomination.
Just War
A war that the Christian Church define as acceptable; this must fit a certain criteria.
Holy War
Fighting for a religious cause or God.
Refugees
People who flee from their homes seeking safety elsewhere.
Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
Weapons that can kill large numbers of people and/or cause great damage.
Proliferation
Spreading to their countries and getting more numerous.
Conflict
Fighting, a state of discord.
