The canoe is a symbol of survival and family
What is the main event of this chapter?
The main event of this chapter is that Kino finds the pearl and at the same time coyote swelling goes down and this shows hope and better future for his family
What new song are we introduced?
The sound of Pearl that is a new song that Kino hears in his head that is clear , beautiful rich and warm
What is Kino‘s most priced possession ? Why is it so important to him? 
Kino canoe because it was passed down for generations and without it he can survive, and it is a source of food
What does Juana pray for?
She prays to find a pearl with which they could find a doctor to heal the baby
What does Kino offer as payment to the doctor? What is the doctors response?
Kino offered the doctor eight small misshapen seed pearls to pay but doctor refuses to help kinos family because theyre poor and he only helps rich people
What two things does the author compare the pearl to
1) perfect as the moon 2) large as a seagulls egg

A grain of salt gets inside of an oyster and irritates it and then the oyster covers it with layers and overtime It becomes a pearl.
How did kino manage to stay on the sea bed ?normally a person would float to the surface
Kino ties a rope on to a rock and one of his baskets and uses it to sink to stay in the bottom of the sea
