Q

X linked traits

A

if the gene is on a sex chromosomes

Females can have the genotypes: XᴱXᴱ, XᴱXᵉ for dominant, XᵉXᵉ for recessive
Males can have the genotypes: XᴱY for dominant, XᵉY for recessive

Men only have one copy of the gene while women have 2 (X)

Q

X linked dominant

A

Females: XᴱXᴱ or XᴱXᵉ
Males: XᴱY

The affected son must have a affected mother.
Affected males will pass the trait to all their daughters
Both sexes are affected, but typically seen more in females

Q

X linked recessive

A

Females: XᵉXᵉ
Males: XᵉY

Affected mothers will pass on the trait to all their sons (remember: boys get X from their mother and Y from father)
The trait often skips a generation
Both sexes are affected , but seen in males more frequently
