Q

Pelvic Compression Test

A

Patient is side lying with the hips and knees bent for stability. Stand behind pt, Examiners hands are then place over th other and placed on the pts ilium. Using body wt, press down and compress illum towards the floor. Its important to maintain a broad contact and to stabilize pts from rolling backwards

Q

Thigh Thrust Test

A

Stand on the opposite side of the thigh you are testing. Patient is supine and the hip is flexed to 90 deg, the knee is bend and hip slightly adducted. Examiner then applies a posterior (downward) shearing force t the SIJ through the femur.

Q

Gaenslen’s Test

A

The patient is then instructed to approximate the opposite knee to his/her chest (flexing the hip and knee) which will also be firmly stabilized by the examiner.

On the side to be tested, the thigh should be unsupported, suspended off of the edge of the table. The examiner then applies pressure to the leg hanging off the edge of table forcing the hip into extension.

Downward pressure on the hanging leg to create end-range extension loading at the hip and SI joints. The precise amount of hip extension described ranges from 0°-10° posteriorly.

Q

Sacral Thrust Test

A

Patient is prone. Examiner places hand down on sacrum, fingers pointing towards the head, then apply downward pressure lasting 2-5 seconds. It is suggested that the forces should be gradually applied at first before the thrust is added.

Q

Belt Test

A

*Standing: 1) have pt bend forward and touch toes. Any pain? 2) if pain is noted, the examiner stabilizes the sacrum against the lateral thigh, grasp bilateral iliac crest and ask pt to “bend forward again as far as possible”

Q

Patrick’s Test

A

*pt supine. Examiner place test leg in figure-4 (crossed leg) position with the foot resting on the knee, the knee is flexed, and hip is in abduction external rotation. Examiner uses one hand to stabilize the opposite side of the pelvis at the ASIS. With the other hand, examiner applies gentle downward pressure over flexed knee to move the hip into extension.
