Q

Effects of Islam on India

A

India was affected by Islam after being taken over by turkic Invaders. It was popular among Buddhists who were seen as less than and lower caste Hindus like the untouchables because it allowed them to be valued and not treated as though they were deserving of their social status. There was also an appeal of Sufi mystics who believed in meditation over practicing written law. In India there was a rise of a new religion called Sikhism which made Islam and Hinduism into a monotheistic faith that recognized reincarnation and Karma.

Q

Effects of Buddhism in China

A

Originally in China there was a foreignness of Buddhism and it was perceived as too un-chinese to become popular. However, once the Han dynasty collapsed Buddhism became more well-known and Confucianism was discredited causing everyone to lean on Buddhist teachings.
It took over Chinese culture and they created the Mahayana, Pure Land, and Ch’an forms of buddhism to fit in more with their beliefs. The Sui emperor Wendi and state support allowed buddhists to build monasteries for military campaigns and enterprises. This made many citizens angry because their funds were going towards these monasteries instead of to the state.
