A

all theories are outdated because

personal life perspective

what do they say role of family is ?

A

-plp help us understand how indivuals define their relationships as “family”

and argue family ties can go above and beyond blood or marriage ties.

  • all relationships indivual consider as significant and gives them a sense of belonging can be considered as family

for e.g
1. relationship with friends - a friend can be like a brother or sister to you

  1. fictive kin - close friends can be seen and treated as family - calling your mums best friend “auntie”
  2. chosen families = made up of supportive friends or ex partners who are not related by blood or marriage
  3. relationship with dead relative

Q

Research to support personal life perspective

A
  • Nordqvist and smart
  • researched families in which children were conceived using donor egg/sperm
  • in such families. children are legally children of people who are raising them but are actually biologically/genetically related to strangers.
  • they found parents of donor conceived children emphasised social bonds over genetic links in determining family.

evaluation : shows importance meaning indivuals attach to their relationships however can be criticised for ignoring special aspects of relationship based on blood and marriage
