What is personality?
It is an individuals unique characteristics which make them behave differently in sporting situations.
What is Nature?
The innate characteristics called traits that we are born with.
What is nurture?
It is a theory which suggests that behaviour is learnt from significant others by socialisation.
What are the characteristics of a trait?
Something that is stable, constant and enduring.
What is the social learning approach?
Theory that our personality develops as a result of associating and learning from others.
What is the interactionist approach?
Combines the trait and social learning theory to predict the behaviour of someone in a specific situation.
What is the Hollander approach?
Suggests personality is made of of 3 features, the core, typical responses and role related behaviour.
What is the core?
It is the values and beliefs of the individual.
What are the typical responses?
The of of inherent traits displayed to specific situations.
What is role related behaviour?
Suggests that a performer may adapt or adopt a very specific role when the situation demands.
