Functionalism
Functionalism is based on the view that society is a system of interdependent parts held together by a shared culture
The new right
The state can’t meet people’s needs and that people are best left to meet their own needs through the free market
Marxism
See education primarily as a means of social control, encouraging young people to be conformists, to accept their social position and not do anything to upset the current patterns of inequality
