Pharm Week 2 Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Where is the Alpha 1 receptor in the body. What is the effect of activating it.
A
- Radial muscle of the eye. Contracting lets more light in. 2. Sphincters of GI tract and Bladder. Contracts, preventing flow.
2
Q
Where are Beta receptors in the body. What happens to each organ when activated?
A
- Ciliary muscle. Relaxes (flat) for distance vision.
2. B1 & 2 in heart- SA node, ectopic pacemakers, contractility. All accelerate/increase when activated.
3
Q
Where are Alpha receptors in the body? What happens when activated?
A
- Skin, vessels contract. 2. Skeletal muscle, vessels contract. 3. Uterus, contracts. 4. Penis, ejaculates. 5. Pilomotor smooth muscle (goose bumps), contracts. 6. Apocrine (stress/phermone) sweat glands. Increase secretion. 7. Liver, increase gluconeogenesis and glyogenolysis. 8. Autonomic nerve ending. Decrease ACh release.
4
Q
Where are B2 receptors and what happens when B2 receptors activated?
A
- Skeletal muscle vessels. Relaxes. 2. Bronchiolar smooth muscle. Relaxes. 3. Longitudinal muscle in GI tract. Relaxes (no lengthening). 4. Bladder wall (detrusor). Relaxes (no pee). 5. Uterus. Relaxes (no baby). 6. Liver. Gluconeogenesis and glyogenolysis. (sugar available)
