Q

Paley Watch Analogy

A

A WATCH has COMPLEX PARTs with each having a FUNCTION which FIT TOGETHER for a PURPOSE

The WATCG therefore must have been designed by a WATCHMAKER

Similarly the UNIVERSE has PARTS that FUNCTION together for a PURPOSE

So the UNIVERSE must have a UNIVERSE MAKER

However due to the UNIVERSE being a far more INTRICATE and WONDERFUL design, it MUST have a DESIGNER that is GREATER than HUMAN

This MUST be GOD

Q

Paley 5 evidences of DESIGN

Q

Criticisms of Teleological Argument- Hume Analogy

A

Hume Argues that to use an analogy you must COMPARE TWO things which are SIMILAR
E.G Builder DESIGNING HOUSE replicates its Design.
However Comparing the ENTIRE Universe to a HOUSE or WATCH design,
As there is no real COMPARISON

Q

Criticisms of Teleological Argument- Hume Analogy Fails Why?

A

Can Be argued that the very concept of an Analogy is to bring understanding of things HUMANS cannot Necessarily COMPREHEND such as the UNIVERSE and GOD

Q

Criticisms of Teleological Argument- Darwin

A

Argues that his theory of NATURAL SELECTION gives Evidence that OBJECTS DESIGN is not By CHANCE

For example with the ANALOGY of the EYE The intricacy and Complex Parts are a RESULT of YEARS of GENETIC DEVELOPMENT, with the Eyes that were less suited EVENTUALLY DYING OUT
Until the Eye with the BEST CHARACTERISTICS WAS LEFT

It is not because of an OMNIPOTENT DESIGNER but due to ADAPTATION

Q

John Stuart Mill Criticisms of Teleological Argument-

A

Argues That Nature is far too cruel to reflect God’s OMNIBENVLLENT NATURE
