PHS unit 5 Flashcards
(9 cards)
synthesis reaction
reactants combine to form 1 product (a+b = c)
Decompositions
reactant disassociates to form multiple products (ab to a + b)
single displacement reaction
one element/ion switches places with another (a + bc to b +ac)
double displacement reaction
two elements/ions switches places (ab + cd to ad + bc)
combustion reaction
involves oxygen gas
law of mass conservation
the mass of the reactants must equal the mass of the products
writing covalent compounds
left to right, “ide” gets added to second element, prefixes added for number of atoms aka the subscript (mono-, di-, tri,)
writing ionic compounds
roman numerals for the charge, metals go first, transitional metals can have different charges
