Physics Flashcards
(11 cards)
What unit is resistance measured in?
Ohms (Ω)
What happens to resistance in a wire as temperature increases?
Resistance increases because particles vibrate more, making it harder for electrons to pass through.
Speed = ?
Speed = distance ÷ time
What is conduction?
Heat transfer through solids when particles vibrate and pass on energy.
What is convection?
Heat transfer in fluids (liquids or gases) where hot parts rise and cool parts sink.
Energy transfer in a kettle?
Electric energy - thermal energy (heat)
Newtons first law?
An object stays still or moves at a constant speed unless a force acts on it.
What does a steep line on a distance–time graph mean?
The object is moving quickly.
Two factors that increase thinking distance?
Distractions, tiredness (also speed, alcohol, or drugs)
Name 3 plug safety features.
Fuse, plastic casing (insulation), earth wire
What is Thinking Distance?
Thinking distance is the distance a car travels while the driver reacts to a hazard before they start braking.
