Physics Flashcards
What is weight?
Weight is the force acting on an object due to gravity.
What is the equation for weight?
Weight = Mass x Gravitational Field Strength
What size is the gravity on Earth?
9.6N/kg
What is the equation for pressure?
Pressure = Force normal to a surface/Area of that surface
What is the equation for pressure(higher)?
Pressure = Height of column x Density of the liquid x Gravitational field strength
What is Distance?
A Scalar Quantity
What is Displacement?
A Vector Quantity
What is Velocity?
A Vector Quantity
What is Terminal Velocity?
The object will fall at a steady speed
What is the equation for momentum?
Momentum = Mass x Velocity
What is the thinking distance?
It is the distance traveled under the reaction time
What is the braking distance?
It is the distance traveled under the braking force
What is the equation for work done?
Work done = Force x Distance
What is Newton’s Third Law?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
What is Newton’s Second Law?
The acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on the object and inversely proportional to the mass of an object1
What is the equation for uniform acceleration?`
(final velocity)2 - (initial velocity)2 = 2 x acceleration x distance
What is the equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = change in velocity/ time taken
What is inertia?
The tendency for objects to continue in the same state of motion.
What is Newton’s First Law?
An object will remain in the same state of motion unless acted on by an external force.
What is the equation for distance traveled?
Distance traveled = speed x time
What is the equation for moment of a force?
Moment of a force = force x distance
What is the equation for force?
Force = spring constant x extension
What is the equation for work done?
Work done = force x distance
What is the resultant force?
When more than one one force acts on an object
