A
Intercostal muscles relax, rib cage drops in and downwards
Diaphragm relaxes, moving back upwards decreasing volume of chest
Pressure inside chest increases & air is forced out

A
Intercostal muscles contract, expanding rib cage
Diaphragm contracts, pulling downwards and increasing volume of chest
