Piolet Studies Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is a pilot study?
A pilot study is a test to see wether what is being done will be successful
Often tv shows will have an episode called the pilot.
What is sampling
process of selecting a subset of individuals or cases from a larger population to participate in a research study. It allows researchers to make inferences about the entire population without studying everyone.
What is operationalising ?
The process of defining how abstract concepts or variables will be measured and observed in a specific study. It involves translating theoretical concepts into measurable, observable indicators.
Types of operationalising
Quantitative and qualitative
What is quantitative
Assigning numerical values (e.g., Likert scales, test scores).
What is qualitative
Defining specific criteria for observation (e.g., types of verbal expressions, behaviors).
Types of sampling
Simple random sampling
Systematic sampling
Stratified sampling
Cluster sampling
Non probability sampling types
Convenience sampling
Snowball sampling
Quota sampling
Why is operationalising important?
It ensures that concepts are clearly defined and measurable, allowing for accurate data collection and analysis.
Example of sampling
study the impact of online learning on high school students.
Population: All high school students in the city.
Sampling Frame: List of all high schools in the city
Sampling Method: Stratified sampling based on school type (public vs. private) to ensure representation.
