They have a high surface area, to absorb water, and dissolve minerals
They don’t contain chloroplasts because there’s no light underground

A
They have very thick walls for support
They form long tubes which carry water and minerals
Don’t contain anything, so it’s easy for water and minerals to flow

They have companion cells, which give energy for mitochondria
