16
Q

How does PPS respond to a loss of PNB?

A

2 RTSG breakers open

Loss of PN:
Loss of power to one leg of 3 matrices.
Loss of power (1/2) to one leg of each ARC
No auto actuations

17
Q

How does PPS respond to a loss of PKC?

A

1 RTSG breaker opens

RTSG (Reactor trip breakers / RTBs / TCBs)
* UV relay / Shunt trip coils actuate concurrently from auto or manual signal.
* Separate manual trip buttons for each RTB on B05. (A&C or B&D only will NOT trip the reactor)
* Trip path status indications (1-3 and 2-4 lights) (White lights on PPS and ROM C/D)
* Breaker indication on PPS cabinets.
* Control power: 125Vdc PK (RTB1-PKA / RTB2-PKB / RTB3-PKC / RTB4-PKD)

18
Q

Are PPS setpoints more or less conservative than Tech Spec limits?

A

more conservative i.e. you will trip before exceeding the Tech Spec limit

19
Q

How does placing a parameter in bypass affect PPS?

A

Trip/actuation logic becomes 2/3

RPS Trip Channel bypass interlock
* Electrical interlock prevents bypassing more than one trip channel (i.e. two low PZR pressure trip bistables).
* If second channel is bypassed, only the highest priority channel will be bypassed. (A highest, D lowest)

20
Q

What are the logic matrix power supplies?

A
21
Q

How far does the Pressurizer Pressure variable setpoint lower when the “LO PZR PRESS SETPOINT RESET” button is pushed?

A

Low PZR pressure variable setpoint (Trip, SIAS/CIAS)
* Setpoint Reset Push-button on ROMs
* ↓ setpoints 400 psia below current PPZR per PB push
* 100 psia is the lowest setpoint possible
* 10 second TD between PB adjustments
* Setpoint ↑ if PPZR ↑ (lags by 400 psia) until 1837 psia.

22
Q

How far does the Steam Generator Pressure variable setpoint lower when the “LO SG PRESS SETPOINT RESET” button is pushed?

A

Lo SG Pressure variable setpoint (Trip, MSIS)
* Setpoint Reset Push-button on ROMs
* ↓ setpoints 200 psia below existing SG Pressure
* 10 second TD between PB adjustments
* Setpoint ↑ if PSG ↑ (lags by 200 psia)

23
Q

How would an RCP sheared shaft be diagnosed?

A

Rx trip on Low RCS Flow

RCP sheared shaft protection. (not seen by CPCs)
Limits fuel failure and maintains 10CFR100 limits.

24
Q

What BOP-ESFAS actuation is not initiated on trend?

A

RAS
Recirculation Actuation Signal

25
Q

What does the High Pressurizer Pressure trip protect against?

A

Prevent exceeding pressure safety limit. Protects RCPB in conjunction with PZR and SG Safeties during:
* Loss of Condenser Vacuum (AOO)
* CEA Withdrawal from Low Power (AOO)
* CVCS Malfunction (AOO)
* MFW Pipe Break (Accident).

26
Q

When is the High Log Power trip automatically placed in service?

A

The Hi Log Power trip and pre-trip bypasses are automatically removed when logarithmic power level falls below 1E-4 % neutron rated thermal power.

27
Q

When does the DNBR/LPD Operational Bypass automatically get removed?

A

DNBR/LPD Bypass
Defeats CPC trips during start-up due to abnormal CEA configuration.
Each channel is individually bypassed.
Manually bypassed < 1x10-5% (key switches at remote CPC modules on B05)
≥ 1x10-4%: Automatically un-bypassed
Log 2 bistable - safety channel NIs
Can be manually un-bypassed.
1x10-5% (setpoint used for initial start-up)

28
Q

Does the High Log Power bypass get placed in service manually or automatically?

A

High Logarithmic Power Level Bypass
* Manually bypassed on each channel from BCPs or ROMs.
o ROM bypass switch (white off, amber permissive, red bypassed lights)
* Bypassed when Permissive lights are LIT (> 1x10-4%)
* Automatically un-bypassed ≤ 1x10-4%
o Log 1 bistable – safety channel NIs
* Permissive alarm: > 1x10-4% and not bypassed.

29
Q

Describe the Low Pressurizer Pressure Bypass

A

Low PZR Pressure Bypass (Trip, SIAS/CIAS)
* Manually bypassed on each channel (< 400 psia RCS pressure)
* Auto un-bypass when > 500 psia
* Bypass and un-bypass from PPS cabinets, ROMs, or RSPs.
o ROM bypass switch (white off, amber permissive, red bypassed lights)
* Lo PPZR Bypass alarm actuated when any channel is bypassed.

30
Q

Does the Remote Shutdown Panel have Pressurizer Pressure Reset Push buttons? Steam Generator?

A

Remote Shutdown Panel (RSP)
* 4 PPS modules on RSP contain:
* **Low PZR Press **
o Bypass Switch / Bypass Permissive Indicators
o Reset Switch
o Pretrip Indicator
* Low SG Press Reset Switch and Pretrip Indicator
* Manual MSIS actuation (both trains)

31
Q

Does the Remote Shutdown Panel have Pressurizer Pressure Reset Push buttons? Steam Generator?

A

Remote Shutdown Panel (RSP)
* 4 PPS modules on RSP contain:
* **Low PZR Press **
o Bypass Switch / Bypass Permissive Indicators
o Reset Switch
o Pretrip Indicator
* Low SG Press Reset Switch and Pretrip Indicator
* Manual MSIS actuation (both trains)

32
Q

If the OATC manually initiates a RAS using the B&D channels ONLY, will RAS initiate?

A

No

Manual ESFAS Initiation
Four actuation switches on B05 (Use all four)
A&C or B&D alone will NOT actuate ESFAS (same train HSs)
Only actuates one leg on each train

33
Q

How does an Operator manually actuate an ESFAS at the Auxiliary Relay Cabinent? Reset?

A

Auxiliary Relay Cabinets (ARCs)
* 2 ARCs (one per train)
* Local actuation (not AFAS): Simultaneously push both trip buttons to remove power from relays.
o 2 buttons per train.
Local reset (not AFAS): Press one reset per train (leg 1-3 or leg 2-4)

34
Q

How does the plant respond to low RWT level on Channels A&C? Will B LPSI stop?

A

The RAS is provided to initiate recirculation of borated water from the containment sump, by
opening Containment sump suctions to SI pumps, tripping operating LPSIs, and closing SI pump
RWT recirculation valves to avoid contamination of the RWT.

Must manually open 530

35
Q

Is Supplementary Protection System trip logic 2/4?

A

It is SELECTIVE 2/4 (not A&C or B&D)

The SPS trips on High Pressurizer Pressure. The TRM requires a reactor trip when the SPS senses a pressurizer pressure of > 2409 psia.

Each SPS channel will trip its associated RTSG so not all combinations of two channels tripping will result in a reactor trip.
